Isolt’s Enchantment: the beginnings
Daughter of Light Trilogy #0.5

Long before the half-faerie Melia was born in the mortal world, the god Vulcan married Isolt of the Waters. When she betrayed him, the seeds of a great war were planted in the Void.

In Idonne, a young scholar studies Isolt’s story, along with tales of dwarf magic and the birth of a malevolent entity in the Void, Umbra. The stories awaken his dream of a life filled with adventure and heroism.

Half Faerie
Daughter of Light Trilogy # 1
By- Heidi Garrett
Genre- YA Fantasy/Faerie Tales

She doesn’t believe in love, and she doesn’t believe in herself.

The crucible of her parents’ dark ambitions will forge her destiny.

Her consciousness will be transformed.

The journey will be epic.

Melia is an eighteen-year-old half faerie, half-mortal who longs to fly like the full-blood faeries. She also yearns for a life that's truly her own, which might prove more difficult than sprouting wings. Her faerie mother practices black magic, and her mortal father plots to bring war to the enchanted world. No matter how she tries to escape their long shadow, Melia is unable to distance herself from her parents’ obsessions.

After the half-faerie is accused of being her father's spy, her friend advises a trip to the Illustrator. The mysterious woman marks Melia's forehead with a strange emblem. She claims it will draw a young priest from distant lands who will come to the half-faerie's aid. Spooked rather than comforted, Melia dismisses the woman's words. Rather, she travels to the mortal world to confront her father.

Whimsical and edgy, Daughter of Light is a spinoff of the 14th century French fairy tale “Melusine.” A high fantasy with fairy tale elements and an intriguing cosmology, it's a great choice for readers who have loved Lord of the Rings.

And here is our interview with Heidi Garrett -

Thanks for stopping by Girls Heart Books!
Let’s start off with you telling us a little bit about yourself and your latest project.
I’ve come into my own very slowly. If I had an animal totem, it would definitely be a turtle. These days, I’m pretty happy and content. That was not always the case. I ended up addressing a lot of inner angst/unrest/turmoil before I settled into writing. Although that was not by choice, that journey ultimately deepened the well I draw from to create my stories. The Daughter of Light series tells the story of a hero’s emergence. Melia has to fail and struggle before she can embrace and wield her strength. She also has to find her allies. I’ve loved weaving the elements of psychological growth into Melia’s quest.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?
After my grandmother passed away, I had a need to pass on what she’d given me. The story told in Daughter of Light was seeded in my final moments with her. Interestingly enough, I wrote a manuscript in my late twenties that was also inspired by my relationship with my grandmother, but that one didn’t make it past the unwieldy first draft.

What are three things you must have to write?
A computer. Time. The Ending.

What’s your writing space look like?
I have a room of my own:) I sit in a recliner with my laptop. There is a single bookcase with my most cherished books. There are several cat perches, and often a cat is in one of them. I have a table for the scattered manual notes I tend to jot down. The only thing I do in that room is write or tend to writing-related research. It’s a pretty simple space. The more uncluttered it is, the easier it is for me to write.

What role does music play in your writing? Do you have one album or playlist that works best for you?
I used to listen to music a lot. So I tend to draw from my older albums for inspiration, hehe. That dates me! I don’t currently have a great way to find new music. I’ve tried different services but haven’t really connected with one. But I don’t—can’t—listen to music when I’m actually writing. I need absolute quiet!

What can we expect next from you?

Completing the Daughter of Light trilogy.
