Treasured Thursdays: Movie Adaptations of Books I've Treasured

Treasured Thursday is a weekly event created by Touya over at The Reader's Garden that is all about our most treasured. I'm hosting it here now, for those of you who are interested in joining me. This week our topic is movie adaptations of books that we've treasured.

My very favorite adaptation has to be The Princess Bride by William Goldman. The book is simply phenomenal and I really thought the movie did a great job of telling the story.

What happens when the most beautiful girl in the world marries the handsomest prince of all time and he turns out to be...well...a lot less than the man of her dreams?

As a boy, William Goldman claims, he loved to hear his father read the "S. Morgenstern classic, The Princess Bride. But as a grown-up he discovered that the boring parts were left out of good old Dad's recitation, and only the "good parts" reached his ears.

Now Goldman does Dad one better. He's reconstructed the "Good Parts Version" to delight wise kids and wide-eyed grownups everywhere.

What's it about? Fencing. Fighting. True Love. Strong Hate. Harsh Revenge. A Few Giants. Lots of Bad Men. Lots of Good Men. Five or Six Beautiful Women. Beasties Monstrous and Gentle. Some Swell Escapes and Captures. Death, Lies, Truth, Miracles, and a Little Sex.

In short, it's about everything.

I really love the book and yes, it is a little different from the movie.Still the movie can stand alone & it gets all the important parts across, which I think is very important.  It's so well cast, too. You really can't help but love it. If you have not seen this movie, you MUST remedy that immediately! Trust me!

This is definitely my most treasured movie adaptation from a book ever, what's yours?

  2. I'm sorry I'm too tired to do a full post but I'm going to side with Mel Gibson's Hamlet. Yes, I said HAMLET. If you haven't seen it I do suggest it. It's not like you can screw up Shakespeare... well, okay DiCaprio screwed up Romeo and Juliet... But anyway. When I think of a great movie based off a book that one popped to mind.

  5. I must have watched this movie a million times. I guess I started watching it in middle school and never realized there was a book. I can't wait to read it!

As for my favorite... I almost always like the book better- but I read the book Beaches and I saw the movie (a million times). Even though they were so different- I still loved both of them. I still cry every time I see the movie!
