Tammy's Two Cents:Rapture by Lauren Kate, Review & Giveaway

The sky is dark with wings . . . .

Like sand in an hourglass, time is running out for Luce and Daniel. To stop Lucifer from erasing the past they must find the place where the angels fell to earth. Dark forces are after them, and Daniel doesn’t know if he can do this—live only to lose Luce again and again.

Yet together they will face an epic battle that will end with lifeless bodies . . . and angel dust. Great sacrifices are made. Hearts are destroyed. And suddenly Luce knows what must happen.

For she was meant to be with someone other than Daniel. The curse they’ve borne has always and only been about her—and the love she cast aside. The choice she makes now will be the only one that truly matters.

In the fight for Luce, who will win?

The astonishing conclusion to the FALLEN series. Heaven can’t wait any longer.

I had the immense pleasure of meeting Lauren at B&N for a book signing; let me tell you I was star struck!  I couldn’t even think of anything to ask her; she asked me “which book was your favorite” and “what are you doing this summer for vacation” … still stammering!  Fallen was, and still is, my favorite of the series.  The introduction to all these wonderful characters was such a thrill, Luce and Daniel’s love story truly is epic and all consuming.
Kate read the Prologue from Rapture and, let me tell you, it was FANTASTIC!  She did dramatic pauses and made eye contact throughout the crowd; during one part she closed her eyes and clenched her fist as she read it, I actually shed a tear!  It is very humbling to not only meet an Author whose work you absolutely LOVE, but to see her as passionate in real life as she is on paper, Fantastic!
A paraphrased quote from Lauren Kate “I liked the concept of Lucifer as it was written in Paradise Lost, what if it didn’t all start due to pride, what if it started with heartbreak.  I’d rather Reign in Hell than Serve in Heaven.”  I had not yet read Rapture so this statement, prolific as it was at the time, made my jaw drop when I understood what she meant, when I read it in relation in the book.
So, we have come to the end of our wonderfully overwhelming sometimes chaotic but mostly psychotic journey with Luce and Daniel.  We finally learn where it all started, how did Luce and Daniel find themselves in the thousand year old struggle to be in love, were they cursed?  If so, who cursed them; better yet, why?  In Rapture we ride along with Luce, Daniel and the other Fallen in this action packed race against time to stop Lucifer from un-writing everything.  Fallen, humans and Outcasts come together with the common goal of thwarting Lucifers plan to un-write the fall and reverse a millennium of experiences and lives in the process.  Our Luce is no longer the shy, scared, awkward teenager we met in Fallen; she has lived and died a thousand lifetimes in hopes of sharing just one with Daniel.  Kate’s take on Angels and Heaven has always fascinated me, she goes one step further in this book with the introduction of The Scale.  This particular group of Angel’s don’t see things as right or wrong; simply black and white unless it fits their version of right and wrong.  Unless it’s their version, it’s wrong!  And her explanation of how they came to be is completely believable as well, I can’t say more it would ruin the surprise!
I am 99% happy with the ending of this series; there is only 1 thing that happened that upset me and even that wasn’t a HUGE thing, I just wanted something different for that particular character.  Most of our questions are answered and we learn finally whether or not Luce and Daniel will get their Happily Ever After.  And let me just say, when you learn whom it will be that will “tip the scales” you will be shocked.  I fell off the bed! At one point I wasn’t so convinced I would get my happy ending and I was screaming “NO No No, don’t do that Luce!” the question is, is my definition of happy ending the same as yours (?) we all know I usually root for the underdog *sports a sly grin*.
