Eyes of the EnemyBlackMyst TrilogyBy: Kelly HessGenre: YA/MG FantasyPublication Date: August 26, 2014Published By: Booktrope PublishingWhen a rogue band of the dreaded Sorak attacks his village, twelve-year-old Beynn Firehand escapes into the darkness of BlackMyst Forest to find help. During his quest, Beynn discovers his own powerful magic abilities. The price of his newfound powers, however, may be higher than he ever imagined.
Eyes of the Enemy is the first book in the BlackMyst Trilogy by Kelly Hess. The story follows young Beynn Firehand after his town is attacked by the "Sorak", and he must escape into the BlackMyst forest in search of help.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It wasn't anything like I expected it to be, and it was way better than I could've hoped! It's a quick read, so it's very easy to get enveloped in Beynn's story and just sit your butt down and tear through it one sitting.
I don't really want to get too into the plot, as I don't want to give anything away, but I will say it was very easy to follow while not being boring at ALL. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the second book! This is a great fantasy book for young and old, girl or boy readers alike. I definitely recommend you get your hands on this one!
My Rating:
Kelly Hess grew up with a love of reading science fiction and fantasy that inspired him to write his own fantasy trilogy. He lives in Vacaville, California with his wife and son, and is putting the final details on the last two books of his BlackMyst Trilogy: The Green Dagger and The Third Power.
