Tragic Silence by E.C. Hibbs is a YA thriller about Bianka Farkas, a girl who suffered a horrific loss and is now transitioning from human to vampire. The story follows Bianka, also known as Bee, as she struggles to cope with MANY things that I can't explain in this review without spoiling the book and escapes from her home town to move to London in an attempt to outrun the monster who flipped her world on its axis.
Let me make note of something... I'm mostly over vampires. I love them, they are what got me back into reading, but everyone jumped on the blood-sucker band wagon--whether they should be writing vampires or not--and I got burnt out on them. But Hibbs knows exactly how to write a vamp novel. This isn't the fluffy vampire with the pretty eyes and rockin' hair--these are the kind of vampires I love: the dark, scary kind that make you afraid to turn your lights off at night. Tragic Silence has given me such wild anxiety and it's awesome. This book has effected me in such deep ways and I love when an author is talented enough to get me this riled up.
Bee is fantastic. She's strong and interesting, and she's not perfect, so it's almost like she's real and it makes it very easy to step in and feel like you're right there with her, feeling everything she does, and hoping against hope these things might work out in her favor even though you know it can't have a happily ever after...
This is a GREAT YA read. Whether you like vampires or you're exhausted by them or not, Hibbs will revive your passion for them. And if you like thrillers or suspense, this is the book for you! I'm very impressed and I can't wait for more from Hibbs.
My Rating:
Living so near the coast, she loves anything to do with the sea. She studied Animal Behaviour at university and longs to work with marine mammals in the future. As well as nature and animals, she also has a soft spot for history, and loves paying visits to castles, cathedrals and museums.
There are many things she could be without, but writing isn't one of them. She carries a pen everywhere, in case an idea appears, and takes pride in still seeing the world as brimming with magic. Besides writing, she reads obsessively, her favourite genres being the classics and all kinds of fantasy. She also enjoys Disney and horror films, practising Shotokan karate, drawing, archery, and playing with her very cheeky kitten.
I don't even apprehend what to mention -- I had no plan individuals still browse this book and took it seriously. thanks for sharing your critique!
