GHBT- Quickbane: Part One by Chelsea Starling- Review + Giveaway

QUICKBANE
The Vale Chronicles #1
By Chelsea Starling
Genre- YA Sci-Fi/Fantasy

Jesobel Vine wants nothing more than to be a typical Pyxie teenager.

She wants to ride her beloved horse, Firefly, shoot her bow, and fall in love with her dreamy best friend, Glyn. But Jesobel is marked not only as the future Royal Starkeeper of Pyxis, but as the Heart of Azimuth—the one to lead her people back to their lost realm—a burden too dangerous for daydreams. As Jesobel struggles to accept her destiny, reluctantly studying mystic magic, she becomes doubtful she will ever be worthy to rule. And when her fiery temper enrages the daemon-possessed Starkeeper of Equuleus with a hex-gone-wrong—igniting an orphic war—Jesobel must find a way to alter the global disaster foretold by a celestial legend.

Quickbane: Part One is the first book in The Vale Chronicles by Chelsea Starling. This novel follows one Jesobel Vine, a young girl with a big responsibility on her shoulders. She has been marked as the next Royal Starkeeper--a prestigious title, and just in time, too, as the current Starkeeper is near her end--and not only that, but she is the Heart of Azimuth...meaning she is the one who will invoke an apocalypse that will either end in her leading her people back to the lost realm...or ending the world as they know it.

I got this book at UtopYA Con 2014. It was my second year at the convention and my first time with a table with my girl, Melissa. We were table neighbors with Chelsea and Christina Mercer, and throughout the whole weekend I kept eyeing the table. I was in cover love, I'll admit it... I didn't even know what Quickbane was about, but I loved the image of Jesobel and Firefly, and I gave it a chance. I didn't get the chance to actually read Quickbane, though, until almost two months later.

I finished this whole book in about four days in the car. Anytime I drove anyone anywhere this book came with me, and I snuck pages in whenever I could--even at those disgustingly long red lights. I was completely sucked into Vale, trailing after Jessa and sharing her emotions, her fears and her wants. I thought she was an amazing, believable character with a great storyline dealt her way. The background characters were all very well done as well (#TeamVallax), making it even easier to jump into her story and follow along with her.

I will say the ending with make you want to launch things off of buildings. A cliffhanger, my favorite, of mass proportions, which will make you very, very angry... And I can't even say why, really, because it will ruin the novel for you. Just know that once you finish, you will be like this -->

All in all, this is a fantastic fantasy read. I loved every minute of it and I cannot wait to read book two!! Easily one of the best reads this year--highly recommend to ALL readers!

.......

So, Chelsea darling...

...how's Part 2 coming, huh?

My Rating:

Warrior, mermaid, wordsmith, performer for kings and queens, Chelsea Starling is fucking awesome. She raises bear cubs with one hand, and conjures whole worlds with the other.
