Blades of Magic
Crown Service Series #1
By- Terah Edun
Narrated by- Sylvia Roldn Dohi
Running Time- 8 hours and 14 minutes
Genre- YA Fantasy

It is not a peaceful time in the Algardis Empire. War is raging between the mages and seventeen-year-old Sara Fairchild will be right in the middle of it.

She just doesn't know it yet.

Sara is the daughter of a disgraced imperial commander, executed for desertion. Sara is also the best duelist and hand-to-hand combatant in Sandrin. She lives quietly with her family’s shame but when challenged about her family’s honor, her opponent inevitably loses.

On the night she finds out her father’s true last actions, she takes the Mercenary Guilds’ vows to serve in the emperor’s army. Using her quick wits and fierce fighting skills, she earns a spot in the first division.

There she discovers secrets the mages on both sides would prefer stay hidden. Dark enemies hunt her and soon it's not just Sara questioning the motivation behind this war.

While fighting mages, blackmailing merchants and discovering new friends, Sara comes across something she’s never had before - passion. The question is - can she fight for her empress against a mage who might unwittingly claim her heart?

This is year one of the Initiate Wars. Sara is hoping it doesn't become the year she dies.

Blades of Magic is the first book in the Crown Service Series by Terah Edun. The story revolves around young Sara Fairchild, the daughter of a shamed and executed commander. She does not start fights regarding her family's honor, but if you're stupid enough to question it, she will finish it. Sara soon discovers she is the pivotal point in the Initiate Wars...and that's all I can really say without ruining it.

Having already been familiar with Edun from her Courtlight Series, I went into this audiobook with HIGH expectations. I loved every minute of Sworn to Raise and it's sequels, so I did not just hope Blades of Magic would be amazing--I expected it. I was NOT disappointed.

Honestly, I think I liked this book even more than Courtlight. Sara is a badass who's not afraid to stand up for what she believes and protect that which she cares about. She's fiery and funny and absolutely awesome to read with!

The audiobook itself I really liked. Sylvia Roldn Dohi really captured Sara, in my opinion, and made it very easy to follow the story and picture it without actually reading the words on the page. It was an excellent story and a great listen and I will definitely be purchasing the paperback of this for my shelf. It's a great read and I would recommend it to any YA fantasy lover!

My Rating:

Terah Edun is a young adult fantasy writer that writes the stories that she always loved to read as a young girl. Her Courtlight series can be seen on the USA Today Happily Ever After blog and her Crown Service series spent multiple weeks in the Amazon Top 300. Her latest book is Sworn To Ascension, the sixth in the Courtlight series. You can find her at twitter.com/tedunwrites or Facebook.com/TerahEdunAuthor.
