Mel's Review-
The Soul Thief is the first book in the Angel of Death Series by Majanka Verstraete. From the moment I read the synopsis I just knew I had to read this book. It sounded like a kick-ass television show that would collect a cult following in no time and I was not disappointed when I started reading.
From the very first scene, I was pulled right into the story. It's told from the point of view of the main character, Riley; a 16 year old girl who survives a horrific car crash and then witnesses something even more disturbing mere seconds later. The action starts there and never really ends and the story simply flies by. It was impossible for me to put this book down once I picked it up. I had to know what would happen next but at the same time I didn't want it to end. I absolutely loved every moment.
There is so much to love about this book, I don't even know where to begin honestly. It was jam-packed full of awesomeness--action, suspense, intrigue, paranormal beings, the bonds of friendship, and some romance, too. The writing flows fast and helps you become engulfed in the drama unfolding in the pages. I read until I could barely keep my eyes open and then when I got to the end I yelled out loud, devastated that the author was leaving us hanging without knowing what Riley would do next.
The characters were well developed and flawed, which I love. It makes a story that much easier to get lost in, in my opinion. I loved Riley and her friend Mich, especially--I thought they were a great example of true friendship and the strength of that bond. Leander-Riley's guardian angel and potential love interest- was sweet, protective and mysterious in turns but mostly I found myself wanting to kick him. A lot. He's immensely likable, but he has a little trouble making up his mind about things sometimes. No spoilers here, read for yourself and see what I mean!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good YA paranormal adventure story. The Soul Thief is one of the best books I've read recently and I say you should grab your copy today.

About the Author-
Majanka Verstraete begged her Mom to teach her how to read while she was still in kindergarten. By the time she finished fifth grade, she had read through the entire children’s section of her hometown library.
She wrote her first story when she was seven years old, and hasn’t stopped writing since. With an imagination that never sleeps, and hundreds of possible book characters screaming for her attention, writing is more than a passion for her.
She writes about all things supernatural for children of all ages. She’s tried to write contemporary novels before, but something paranormal always manages to crawl in.
Majanka is currently studying for her Master of Laws degree, and hopes one day to be able to combine her passions for law and writing. When she’s not writing, reading or studying, she likes watching “The Vampire Diaries” and “Game of Thrones,” spending time with her friends, or playing “World of Warcraft.”
