Author Spotlight: S C Alley

S C Alley, author of Ghost Club The Unloved was kind enough to answer a few questions for us, guys! Check it out!

Can you tell me a little about yourself?
I am 40 years old, married with a newborn daughter. I love reading, writing, going to tea shops and browsing independent bookstores. I also have a weakness for heavy rock and metal music. In 2005, I attained my Master of Arts degree in Writing for Children from the University of Winchester, England, my main love being young adult fiction. I have always written strange and supernatural tales but ‘Ghost Club’ is my first venture beyond the short story. Something I should have done years ago!

Where did you get the idea for Ghost Club?
I wanted to write a young adult book and simply looked to what I was interested in as a teen (and still am!). I combined that with my passion for old buildings and my love of bookshops. Suddenly, ‘Ghost Club’ appeared out of nowhere.

Are any of your characters based on people in your life?
I think they are based on a mix of people I knew as a teenager myself and some teens that I have observed today. I daren’t elaborate more than that!

Can you tell us anything about what's next for Derek and the rest of the Ghost Club?
Derek’s relationship with his father takes another dramatic turn, as does his relationship with Charlotte. And, of course, there will be a haunting or two!

If you could give aspiring authors one piece of advice, what would it be?
Just keep writing and don’t be afraid of writing rubbish. We all do it. Besides, I’ve seen even the poorest writers dramatically improve with practice. Just write. Don’t just sit and procrastinate for years like I did! I wish you the very best of luck with whatever genre you write in.

Again Sue, thanks so much for answering our questions & congrats again!

  1. Great interview! This book sounds fun, I plan to check it out. Good advice- keep writing- I am always amazed when I noticeably see my writing improve- it's like putting together the right pieces of the puzzle : ) ~ Jess

  2. Thanks so much Jess! Sue was super nice to do the interview with us seeing as how she JUST had her baby! lol. I've definitely found myself getting discouraged and scrapping pages because I feel 'stuck' when I'm writing, so this is good advice I'm going to try and follow.
Thank you, as always, for your comment & your support for us!! We love you ladies! <3
