"Treasured Thursdays" Books I Treasured as a Child

Treasured Thursdays is a weekly event created by Touya over at Reader's Garden that is all about our most treasured. I've decided to start it back up!  This week's topic is Most Treasured Books from Your Childhood. Here are mine!

When I think back to my childhood there are a few authors & series that really stand out in my memory. I loved pretty much anything by Judy Blume but the book that stands out most clearly is Tiger Eyes.

Davey has never felt so alone in her life. Her father is dead—shot in a holdup—and now her mother is moving the family to New Mexico to try to recover. Climbing in Los Alamos Canyons, Davey meets mysterous Wolf, who seems to understand the rage and fear she feels. Slowly, with Wolf’s help, Davey realizes that she must get on with her life. But when will she be ready to leave the past behind? Will she ever stop hurting? (Goodreads)

This book was probably the first young adult novel I ever read & I sobbed through a lot of it, but it was just so good! I read it quite a few times in my preteen and teen years. I don't care how old you are now, if you haven't read this book already, go to the library & remedy that situation!

When Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island, send for a boy orphan to help them out at the farm, they are in no way prepared for the error that will change their lives. The mistake takes the shape of Anne Shirley, a redheaded 11-year-old girl who can talk anyone under the table. Fortunately, her sunny nature and quirky imagination quickly win over her reluctant foster parents. Anne's feisty spirit soon draws many friends--and much trouble--her way. Not a day goes by without some melodramatic new episode in the tragicomedy of her life. (Amazon.com)

The first character I think I truly fell in love with was Anne Shirley, from Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. I had every book & I read them over and over again. Anne was such a wonderful heroine, you couldn't help but admire her spunk and her strength!  I wanted so badly to have a friend just like her! And I think everyone can relate to Anne in one way or another!

These are the books I most treasured as a child, what are yours?

  1. That's a great pick. The part about Ann that sticks out to me the most is when she tried coloring her hair to get rid of the red. The poor girl. ^_^

I think if I had to pick one, mine would be the Secret Garden. That was like my comfort chocolate growing up.

P.S.: (I wouldn't say hosted though, I'm not hosting you are. You can say created or invented by. ^_^ Remind me to show you how to set up a linker thingy too.)

  3. I love Anne! :)

I read a lot of Judy Blume, but not that particular book. Thanks for the tear-jerker warning. I'm a huge baby when it comes to emotional books!
