'Ever Fire' by Alexia Purdy Blog Tour: Review & Character Interview

A little teaser from Ever Fire:
Vange stopped abruptly, watching her witch light suddenly bounce off an invisible wall. Tilting her head, she scanned the dirt until she spotted what she was looking for. Crouching down she lit the ground around her with the witch light and frowned, noting the specks of still drying blood and salt trail. Standing again she reached out to touch the invisible shield before her.

Damn! Jade already knows.

The shield rippled under her hand and sent a vibration of pain up her arm. Pulling her hand away, she winced from the slight shock. Vange had no choice now but to call her sister out of the house and speak with her. The protection shield was strong. Even she could not penetrate it. She concentrated on the shield, feeling not one, but three powerful essences embracing the spell. If Jade had found two other Witches to perform the spell with her, they were now as safe as anyone could ever be in their own home from Faeries, lest hiding in an oubliette. No one could enter without their permission. No one and nothing could penetrate its magic.

The Serenity of the Land of Faerie is threatened as the Unseelie Queen Aveta rages war against the three remaining Seelie Realms of Faerie. Winter is growing in strength as the evil Queen's horrifying legions scar the land in their frigid wake. No one is safe. Shade becomes enemy number one for the Unseelie legions. Questioning her true role of power, Shade discovers the cost of winning may come at a much higher price than she ever imagined. (from Goodreads)

Ever Fire is the second book in Alexia Purdy's Dark Faerie Tale series.  I've been a fan of Ms. Purdy's work since I read Reign of Blood about two months ago. When I heard about this blog tour, I was very excited to be a part of it. Nothing makes me happier than spreading the word about wonderful authors and their work.

This installment picks up not long after the first ends and really hits the ground running. There is no lull in the action as we follow Shade and her friends as they fight to complete  their mission. You get sucked into the intrigue as Shade works to uncover the answers she's been seeking since she stumbled upon the world of the Faeries.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I really love Purdy's writing style, she makes you feel you're living in these worlds she's created. I can't wait for the next one!
My Rating:

And, I was lucky enough to get Dylan to answer a few questions for us!

First, thanks very much for taking the time to answer our questions, Dylan. Things must still be pretty hectic for you all.
Yes, they are pretty crazy here in Faerie. Nothing ever goes how you would think it would.

*Can you tell us a little about yourself, in your own words?
Well, I’m a former Teleen Captain of the Guard. My people live in underground caverns and we are made of lightning and blue fire, but we wear glamour to look human and to not electrocute everyone we meet. I’m immortal and I’m two hundred and forty-six years old. I like to work with weapons, am an expert tracker and I do a lot of hunting. I had a brother named Darren, but I disowned him, he’s a psycho. I have a blood bind to Shade and am obligated to keep her safe from harm until the Land of Faerie releases me from this bind.

*How are you handling your blood bind with Shade?
I think it’s okay, I really like Shade a lot. I do miss my home but traveling around with Shade and keeping her out of trouble keeps me quite busy. Who knows, maybe we’ll be bound together for a really long time. Which could be a very good thing, you know? (Wink, wink)

*Can you tell us anything about the mission you went on for your Queen when you left Shade?
Ah, well you’ll hear all about it in book 3 but I can tell you that I was on Darren’s trail for a long time, he’s gone rogue and I feel pretty responsible to find him and bring him to justice. Plus the Teleen Queen wants to make sure that it’s me who takes care of him, it would be what our mother would have wanted, so to say.

*What is your idea of a perfect day?
I think hanging out with Shade while we have a nice picnic out in the grassy banks near the seven rivers of Faerie would be amazing. She’s a strong and beautiful person, but a lot of life and obligations on both our parts gets in the way. I hope to get some more time with her in the future.

*Can you tell us what’s next for you & Shade?
Oh, man, I’d love to spend more time with her, keep her safe and hopefully fix all that has gone wrong. Shade has a lot to deal with and I want to be the one to save her, if I can. I have my work cut out for me, but she’s worth it. If only the insanity of Faerie would just settle for a while, it would be a lot better. I guess you can say that I have very strong feelings for her, but she doesn’t exactly know what she wants. That’s okay, I plan to win her over (crosses fingers).

Thank you again! Good luck with everything!

And because I love you guys, here's another excerpt from Ever Fire:
“Dylan?”

He turned his eyes to Shade and took in her face, acknowledging her before turning back to the remnants of the day. The seriousness that clung to his face worried her.

“I thought I would be home by now, Shade.” His solemn voice made her shiver.

His arms hung at his sides, never wavering from his statuesque stance, as though his feet were rooted to the land under him. Shade stared at him; he seemed so lost and alone. She wondered often what went through his head. At the graduation parties she had dragged him to, he had hung out at the edge of the rooms or in a corner, trying to fade away and become inconspicuous. He would nod and smile at the friends she would introduce to him, but he would leave that as the extent of his conversation. Getting him to mingle was like pulling teeth.
