'The Lost Prince' by Julie Kagawa: Review

The Lost Prince
The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten: Book #1

By: Julie Kagawa
Published By: Harlequin Teen
Publication Date: October 23,2012

Don't look at Them. Never let Them know you can see Them.
That is Ethan Chase's unbreakable rule. Until the fey he avoids at all costs—including his reputation—begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he'd dare to fall for.
Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister's world—the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myth and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for Ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.

The Lost Prince is the first book in the new Iron Fey series: Call of the Forgotten by Julie Kagawa.  I have to admit to being extremely excited when I heard there was going to be a new series set in the thrilling universe of The Iron Fey. When I heard Ethan, Meghan's baby brother, was going to be the focus of said series, there was some jumping up and down going on over here. I'd been wondering since I finished the first four books what would become of Ethan. I am very happy that Julie Kagawa decided to honor us with another visit to this amazing realm.

Told from the perspective of 17 year-old Ethan Chase, The Lost Prince snared my interest from the very first line. Really, I'm not kidding.  Ethan is just as captivating a narrator as Meghan was before him.  Amusing and sad all at once, this book was impossible for me to put down. Every time I thought I'd stop reading for a little while, something else would happen that would pull me back in.

Kagawa's storytelling is superb from start to finish. There is no downtime in the entire book, no lulls in the action and suspense of the story. I finished this entire book in an afternoon, I couldn't stay away from it. And now I have to wait who knows how long for the next installment, I see many re-readings in my future.

The characters, as always, are what really make the book for me, honestly. Ethan has grown up, and unfortunately, things have not been easy for him. He keeps everyone at arm's length and is prepared for the absolute worst the fey can dish out every single day. Not exactly conducive to a happy, healthy teenage life. Underneath his tough exterior, though, the same sweet Ethan is there. He's merely trying to keep from dragging innocent bystanders into the hell his life has become. I was very impressed with him, even when he was making girls cry.

I was so very happy for the cameos of some of my favorite characters from The Iron Fey in this book. (When Grimaulkin entered the scene, I clapped. I was on the bus..people stared.) Yet, the new characters are extremely intriguing as well and I am sure that things will only continue to get more enthralling as the series progresses.

In closing, I would recommend this book to EVERYONE who loves romance, action, humor and sarcasm. This book has it all and then some. It's a MUST READ, I cannot say this enough about ALL of Julie Kagawa's books.

My Rating:

Julie Kagawa was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos, and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn't getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish, and the odd eel.

When not swimming for her life, Julie immersed herself in books, often to the chagrin of her schoolteachers, who would find she hid novels behind her Math textbooks during class. Her love of reading led her to pen some very dark and gruesome stories, complete with colored illustrations, to shock her hapless teachers. The gory tales faded with time, but the passion for writing remained, long after she graduated and was supposed to get a real job.

To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dogtrainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full-time.

Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the frequency of shark attacks are at an all time low. She lives with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian Shepherd who is too smart for his own good, and the latest addition, a hyper-active Papillon puppy.

Group Review & Giveaway: The Unfailing Light by Robin Bridges

The Unfailing Light

The Katerina Trilogy Book #2

By Robin Bridges

Published By: Random House Children's Books

Publication Date: October 9th, 2012

Having had no choice but to use her power has a necromancer to save Russia from dark forces, Katerina Alexandrovna, Duchess of Oldenburg, now wants to forget that she ever used her special powers. She's about to set off to pursue her lifelong dream of attending medical school when she discovers that Russia's arch nemesis--who she thought she'd destroyed--is still alive. So on imperial orders, Katerina remains at her old finishing school. She'll be safe there, because the empress has cast a potent spell to protect it against the vampires and revenants who are bent on toppling the tsar and using Katerina for their own gains. But to Katerina's horror, the spell unleashes a vengeful ghost within the school, a ghost more dangerous than any creature trying to get in.

The Unfailing Light is the second book in the Katerina Trilogy by Robin Bridges.  When we were approached about being a part of this blog tour, Lana and I were both very excited. Just the synopsis had me hooked. I read this book in less than a day, I could not put it down. This book surpassed all my expectations.

The story is told from the point of view of Katerina, the main character. Katerina is a very unique girl for her time. While other girls her age are hoping to snare a royal or rich husband, all she desires is to go away to medical school so she can become a doctor and help people.  She is selfless, brave and funny, without seeming perfect in that annoying way some heroines are. I loved that she always sought to solve her own problems. She didn't go looking for a white knight to swoop in and fix everything for her.

There was no way to predict what would happen next in this book and that is always a good thing, in my opinion. I was riveted, carrying my kindle throughout the house reading as I went about my day. The suspense and the twists made this book thoroughly enjoyable for me. There was just a dash of romance thrown in the mix as well and I found Bridges balance perfect. I love the way she tells the story, keeping the reader engrossed from the first page until the end.

This book was a quick and exciting read and I am looking forward to reading the conclusion to this enchanting trilogy.

My Rating:

"The Unfailing Light" is the second book in The Katerina Trilogy. The first book, "The Gathering Storm", was already on my To-Read list, so I was super excited to have an excuse to get to it. The idea intrigued me from the first time I read the summary, and the covers are beautiful-- It would've been one of those books I just bought due to the prettiness and unique backdrop if my bookstores ever had it. *cough*

While I had an extremely hard time getting through the first book, "The Unfailing Light" was actually quite enjoyable. Katiya didn't aggravate me nearly as much (I never like the main female, take that with a grain of salt), and the twists actually got to me this time. The characters grew a lot, and the story rolled easily.

The book is charged with all that is awesome, from romance to evil, suspense to humor. I am very glad I continued with the trilogy, and will be keeping an eye out for more from Bridges!

Friday Fever: "Protecting Truth" by Michelle Warren

Friday Fever is a weekly event hosted here at Girls *Heart* Books. Every Friday, we will showcase one of our favorite steamy and/or romantic scenes from the YA & New Adult universe. You know the ones we're talking about; those that get your pulse thumping and your temperature rising. Enjoy.

This week I'm ALL about Protecting Truth, the second book in the Seraphina Parrish trilogy by Michelle Warren. I can't help it, guys, really. You MUST read this book, I wouldn't steer you wrong. So here is a nice steamy scene that left me gasping.

"Aren't you the one who told me to move on, Seraphina? What was it you said exactly? 'Find someone new,' I think it was." He drags me out a set of ornate doors and onto a veranda that overlooks a holographic city. Turner kicks the doors closed behind us. The party and music disappear, leaving us in silence.
"Uh!" I grunt and stomp away, but he latches onto my arm.
"No! We're having this out now! You aren't going anywhere!" He swings me back to face him. "Why don't you ask yourself why you're so jealous of her?"
"Jealous! I am not!" I scream. "You're out of your delusional mind!" I pull away.
But he isn't done with me. He pulls me back again. My body lands with my chest against his. Before I can react or even say another word, he crushes his lips into mine and kisses me. I struggle to get away, but he holds me there, letting his hungry fingers skim over my shoulders and down my back. His kisses are frantic, hot, and out of control. I lose my mind, because suddenly, I kiss him back.
All the tension that has built up between us explodes into fireworks. They sizzle through my veins, shooting throughout my body. The kiss, heated with passion, is the consequence of raw and careless emotional disturbance that's been building for months. His scorching lips work mine over. I reach into his dark hair and twine my fingers into its roots, pulling him closer, gasping for more.
Turner kisses the line of my collarbone and bare shoulders. In the frenzy, he lifts me from the floor and staggers backward. I land seated on a ledge and lock my legs around his hips. Then I grab his collar, jerk him closer, and vanish into absolute delirium. There's passion-so much more intense passion than I've ever felt before."

Phew! Don't know about you guys, but I love it!

"Protecting Truth" by Michelle Warren: Review & Giveaway

Protecting Truth
The Seraphina Parrish Trilogy Book #2
By Michelle Warren

Seraphina’s keeping a secret from her Wandering team: she’s perfecting her fighting skills. But telling Sam and Bishop the truth would only alert them to her plan: to go back in time, save her mom, and finish what she started. With the help of Turner, Bishop’s handsome twin, she progresses toward her goal but plummets deeper into dangerous territory where the lines of friendship and romance are blurred. One passionate kiss changes everything, leading Sera to unravel a shocking web of family secrets, heartbreaking ulterior motives, and sinister agendas. Love and lies collide in a haunting climax, where the truest souls may not survive.

Protecting Truth is the second book in The Seraphina Parrish Trilogy by Michelle Warren. I have been anxious to read this book since I finished Wander Dust so I was very excited when I learned the book was available to be reviewed. This installment picks up a few months from the end of the first book and we dive right back into the action.

Where do I begin? First I have to gush that I adore Michelle Warren and this world she has crafted for us to enjoy. Just the idea of being able to go anywhere you wanted in time to witness historical events is very appealing to me. Add the romance, suspense and action and this series is absolutely perfect for me.

The story is told from the point of view of our main character, Sera. She is such a strong, brave character and I love her. She has grown a lot since the beginning of Wander Dust as have the other characters we met. We also meet some new characters. Most notably, Bishop's twin brother, Turner. Now, I adore Bishop but Turner is a thousand times more interesting. Intense and edgy, he draws you in from the first moment you meet him.

Bursting with action, suspense and twists that will leave you gaping in open-mouthed shock, Protecting Truth is an intense and highly enjoyable read. There isn't a dull moment in the entire book. I can't wait for the conclusion to this amazing series.

"Cinder" by Marissa Meyer: Review

Cinder

The Lunar Chronicles Book #1

by Marissa Meyer

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

Cinder is the first book in The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. Meyer took a very well known tale and modernized it, adding in a few fantastic twists to make it her very own. To say it's unique would be a vast understatement in my opinion. Cinder is a superb reading experience from beginning to end.

The story is told in the third person perspective and follows both Cinder, our main character and Kai, the prince of New Beijing. I love when we get to delve into the heads of different characters in a book and this was no exception.  Cinder and Kai are both dynamic and interesting characters to behold and they kept me more than entertained as the story went on.

Cinder is a truly unique character in the young adult genre. How many cyborgs do you read about? She was my first and I could not help but admire her as I followed her story. People  in Cinder's world seem to think that because she's a cyborg she doesn't have feelings but that couldn't be further from the truth. Cinder is deeply loyal, brave, sweet, smart, and spunky; she is more human in her feelings than most of the 'normal' people in her life. Then we have Kai. Yep, he's a prince and he is most definitely charming but there is so much more to him than that.  He is genuine and selfless and so many other lovely qualities that I could just keep going on and on. What I like most about his character, though, is that he acts like a regular person. He doesn't expect special treatment, he doesn't look down his nose at people. He is extremely lovable.

This book was amazing from start to finish; fast paced, thrilling and addictive. I was completely sucked in from the beginning. I read it in a day; barely putting my kindle down and ignoring my husband's attempts to interact with me. There were a few twists thrown in that made me gasp aloud and when the end came I was left wanting more. I cannot wait to read the next installment, Scarlet which is due out on February 5, 2013.

The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa: Series Review & Giveaway

The Iron Fey saga follows half-human, half-faery Meghan Chase as she fights to claim her magical birthright.

Meghan’s journey begins in the mortal world, when her half-brother Ethan is kidnapped. The mission to rescue the innocent child draws Meghan into the Nevernever—the magical world—where the never-before-seen Iron fey are raining destruction upon traditional faeries. Meghan’s quest is fraught with unimagined dangers, unpredictable powers…and an utterly forbidden love.
Where do I begin with this amazing series? This was another that sat on my to read list for far too long before I finally had the chance to pick them up. I have to thank my lovely friend Touya from The Reader's Garden for badgering me until I was completely enthralled with just the idea of reading these books. I devoured all four volumes in a week.  Then I went and read all the novellas, (yes, out of order, sorry guys). I couldn't pause between books to see which one went where. That was last month and even with my busy reviewing schedule for the blog I am currently re-reading The Iron King.  I was already experiencing withdrawal from Julie Kagawa's brilliance.

The Iron Fey series is written by the fantastically talented Julie Kagawa and consists of four full length novels (The Iron King, The Iron Daughter, The Iron Queen and The Iron Knight) and three novellas (Winter's Passage, Summer's Crossing and Iron's Prophecy).  It is centered around 16-year-old Meghan Chase as she learns about her true heritage and is pulled into the Nevernever to save her brother and finds herself immersed in the surreal  landscape of the fey.

This series is the complete package; it has everything you could possibly hope to find in a book. We have a strong willed, loyal female lead in Meghan. Ash more than fills the role of the oh-so-swoon-worthy yet deadly prince. Puck is the consummate best friend and prankster, cracking jokes while always having Meghan's back.  And of course, we cannot forget the seemingly all-knowing guide/ally, Grimaulkin, who just happens to be a cat. There are more than enough villain types to go around as well.

This series is emotionally charged and pulses with danger and suspense. I found myself completely drawn in from the very beginning and it still hasn't let me go. Julie Kagawa has created this beautifully terrifying universe and populated it with interesting and dynamic characters that will ensnare your heart and mind. I am very glad I waited until all four books were released before reading it-honestly, I don't know how I would have survived the wait between books. I am very excited about the spin off series ( tune in later on this week for my review of The Lost Prince!)

Do you love stories of the fey, laughing, crying, being terrified and excited all at the same time? If so, this series is tailor made for you. The Iron Fey is a powerhouse production, completely enchanting and highly addictive; I dare you to read it and not love every moment.

Event: Fierce Reads Tour, with Ann Aguirre, Elizabeth Fama, Lish McBride, and Marissa Meyer,

When The Tattered Cover does book signings, they never do them scattered throughout the year. Or, at least, they never do this with authors I'm familiar with. Not even a week after seeing Ellen Hopkins there, on September 13th, I was back for the Fierce Reads Tour on September 19th. I left my wallet at home this time-- I've spent enough money on books lately, as is...

I've never read anything but Ann, Beth, Lish or Marissa when I found out about the signing, but that didn't stop me from going. A book signing is just an excuse to buy more books, in my opinion. ;)

Surprisingly enough, I was there early. Wow. I meandered around the store for a few minutes, read a bit, added more books to my list, and then, finally, I got a REALLY good seat. Which, since I'm always there all of thirty seconds before the authors arrive, is rare for me. The ladies were already present and seated, and discussing amongst themselves-- It's easy to tell they're all friends, which made this signing even more fun.

Marissa Meyer
Marissa, author of Cinder, was adorable. She revealed she got started writing by posting fanfictions on Sailor Moon (so glad I'm not the only one who watched that show when I was little...), and began to get the idea for Cinder while entering a contest. Out of the options given, Marissa wrote a story that was, basically, "A sci-fi version of Puss In Boots". Later, she found out only two people had entered that contest, and she didn't win. But she liked her thought, so she continued on, and eventually, Cinder was born! (Yay!)

Lish McBride
Did you you know Lish wrote Hold Me Closer, Necromancer so she could get her masters degree? I didn't either. Can you imagine? Hitting up your teachers with a horror story with a necromancer/burger flipper and a talking head being a major role? Lish admitted she had a lot of push-back, but she fought for Sam to be her character, even though her teacher insisted her selected genre was 'crap' and 'no one' reads it. *ahem*

"I eventually had to go and get a New York Times best seller list and show her. 'Oh, look! Mystery, thriller, thriller, romance, mystery, thriller, YA, YA, thriller, oh, there, one of your genre...' And she was genuinely shocked about this! I was like, 'Do you live under a rock?" ~Lish (paraphrased, I'm sure I screwed it up. Derp.)

Lish was hilarious, and I cannot wait to get into Sam's story.

Elizabeth Fama
Elizabeth was a doll. Very soft spoken and comfortable with her surroundings, she got me VERY excited by telling us that while it has an innocent looking mermaid on the cover, Monstrous Beauty is actually quite "dark and tragic". I won't lie, I did a fist pump at this, and I'm sure this weirded several people out, but I really don't care. The dark stuff is my favorite. She told us the last thing she wrote was a book for a Write-Off with her son. The judges being an unbiased college friend (who called tie), herself (who voted her son), her son (who voted her), and her husband... Who voted her son. Queue the "Oooooh's" and giggles from the audience. She is currently reading her sons, and while "the grammar is a mess", the story is insane. I kind of want to read it....hehe

Ann Aguirre
Ann was probably the chipper-est person I have ever encountered. She was telling us of her obsession with zombies, which I've never been a massive fan of, and even reenacted a scene from a trailer she saw. For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the movie, but I really want to. The trailer alone sounds hilarious, and just from her description, I kind of want to see it. My first zombie flick, oh boy...

Lana (me!) and Ann Aguirre
When I got up to the signing line (which turned into a mad rush near the end, I might add), Beth had a notebook with her, for fans to sign their name and emails in if they wished. As I was doing so, I heard the person behind me (obviously) begin talking to Elizabeth as I was talking to Ann (who likes my hair, EEP!). I was expecting to meet four authors, and I met five.

"Hi! I'm gonna be with you guys tomorrow- I'm Jessica Brody."

Jessica Brody. You know her- She wrote The Karma Club, My Life Undecided, 52 Reasons to Hate My Father...? You know who I mean. Needless to say, I, grace in action, nearly fell over my book bag. After getting a picture with Ann (who was awesome, thank you), I told Jessica I was a huge fan, and she was kind enough to take a picture with me. Yay, proof!

Lana (me!) and Jessica Brody
The event was FANTASTIC and I'm so happy I went! I will have to start on ALL of these books soon (and you all know you'll get my opinions on them, sooner or later). So much fun!

Event: HVYAS at Oblong Books & Music: Andrea Cremer, Mariah Fredericks, Jillian Larkin & Kat Rosenfield

From left to right: Kat Rosenfield, Mariah Fredericks, Jillian Larkin & in the back, Touya from Reader's Garden
Last Sunday, September 16th, Touya from The Reader's Garden and I made our monthly trip to Rhinebeck, NY for the Hudson Valley Young Adult Society event at Oblong Books and Music. We were very excited, as always, and spent the morning meandering through town and chatting on our favorite bench. After we had lunch at Famous Pete's (seriously, their food is AWESOME!), we headed back to get our books and get situated at the book store.

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but Oblong is a gorgeous bookstore. Seriously, everything about it invites you in and makes you want to stay forever. Touya and I browsed for quite a while and even recommended a book to a girl in the young adult section of the store. My bag was quite heavy before I left, and that wasn't only because I had books for myself and Lana in there. It was bulging. Really, I'm not kidding, I should have taken a picture of it.

Touya and I always have a blast at these events; the staff is hilarious and helpful and the authors are always so open and eager to answer questions and share stories. This event was no different. Jennifer, one of the lovely ladies at Oblong, introduced the authors and talked a little about each of their most recent books and then we got to hear the authors read some of their favorite parts from their most recent novels.

Kat Rosenfield, author of  Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone, went first and she seemed a bit nervous, saying "This is my first time!" in a very panicked way but she did a wonderful job. I cannot wait to read her book!   Mariah Fredericks went next. The Girl in the Park sounds like a great book and I'm looking forward to getting the chance to read it sometime soon. Mariah told us the book was inspired by actual events that took place in Central Park. Next was Jillian Larkin, author of the Flappers series. The last installment, Diva is out now! I have had her books on my to read list for what feels like forever and I'm kind of glad I waited, now I don't have to anxiously await sequels when I finish. Last but certainly not least was Andrea Cremer. Andrea wrote the Nightshade novels (some of my favorites!) and she read to us from Rift, the new prequel to the original trilogy. (On a side note: Touya won an arc of Rise, the second book in the prequel series, at the event!)

When asked how they develop their characters (by Touya), Andrea Cremer said her characters 'speak' to her and she is just along for the ride. Jillian Larkin admitted that there is a tiny spark of her best friend growing up in each of her female characters; they tend to be feisty and outspoken, but other than that, they are completely original people. Mariah Fredericks said each of her characters contain a small part of herself.  Kat Rosenfield told us about accidentally creating a character in her book based heavily on someone she didn't care for much in high school and how she gave him the same name without realizing she'd done it until she was revising the book.
Mel & Andrea Cremer

We had a wonderful day and there was so much more conversation and I promise to share it all with you guys very soon. All in all, here is what I learned:

1-Andrea Cremer uses a different colored Sharpie marker to sign each of her books and her favorite book growing up was Watership Down by Richard Adams.

2-Jillian Larkin loves the 1920's and says she is almost obsessed with The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

3-Mariah Fredericks loves it when her audience interacts and shows they understand what she is talking about.

4-Kat Rosenfield writes a blog for MTV Crush and is likely to know all about who Justin Bieber is dating at any given moment.

Friday Fever: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Friday Fever is a weekly event hosted here at Girls *Heart* Books. Every Friday, we will showcase one of our favorite steamy and/or romantic scenes from the YA & New Adult universe. You know the ones we're talking about; those that get your pulse thumping and your temperature rising. Enjoy.

Here I go again... Beautiful Disaster is a new adult novel by Jamie McGuire and, for those of you who haven't been paying attention, it is probably my most favorite book in the entire world... Ever. (I know I say that about everything, but I mean it this time!...) Anyway. While it is clever and witty, it is also STEAMY. But a couple scenes are a little, erm... Graphic, shall we say. And I wouldn't want to corrupt anyone (Ha. HAHA.), so I'll stick with a sexy scene FEATURING clothing.. ;) (did anyone just huff..? I think I heard an annoyed huff...)

Travis pulled on my hand. "C'mon," he said, tugging me through the crowd and to the dance floor.

"I've had a lot to drink! I'm going to fall!"

Travis smiled and pulled me to him, grabbing my hips. "Shut up and dance."

America and Shepley appeared beside us. Shepley moved like he'd been watching too many Usher videos. Travis had me near panic with the way he pressed against me. If he used any of those moves on the couch, I could see why so many girls chanced humiliation in the morning.

He cinched his hands around my hips, and I noticed that his expression was different, almost serious. I ran my hands over his flawless chest and six-pack as they stretched and tensed under his tight shirt to the music. I turned my back to him, smiling when he wrapped his arms around my waist. Coupled with the alcohol in my system, when he pulled my body against his, things came to mind that were anything but friendly.

The next song bled into the one we were dancing to, and Travis showed no signs of wanting to return to the bar. The sweat beaded on the back of my neck, and the multicolored strobe lights made me feel a bit dizzy. I closed my eyes and leaned my head against his shoulder. He grabbed my hands and pulled them up around his neck. His hands ran down my arms and down my ribs, finally returning to my hips. When I felt his lips and then his tongue against my neck, I pulled away from him.

He chuckled, looking a bit surprised. "What, Pidge?"

...I don't know, but something about his nickname for Abby is hot to me, too. And his moves. And him. Travis is very hot. Now. *off to take a cold shower*

And yes. I am leaving you on a cliffhanger. Because I suck. And I want you to read it and see what her problem is ;)

Treasured Thursday: Most Treasured Contemporary Novel

Treasured Thursday is a weekly event created by Touya over at The Reader's Garden that is all about our most treasured. We're hosting it here now, for those of you who are interested in joining me. This week our topic is our most treasured contemporary novel.

I am actually a little stunned we haven't done this yet. I know most of us tend to lean toward the supernatural side of YA, but aren't there any fans of high school? ...Well, in books, anyway?

I'm a fan, obviously, and I've read a LOT. Almost as many as I have read in the paranormal area. That being said, the first one that springs to mind is The Karma Club by Jessica Brody.

Madison Kasparkova always thought she understood how Karma works. Do good things and you'll be rewarded, do something bad and Karma will make sure you get what you deserve.

But when Maddy's boyfriend cheats on her, nothing bad comes his way. That's why Maddy starts the Karma Club, to clean up the messes the universe has left behind. Sometimes, though, it isn't wise to meddle with the universe.

It turns out Karma often has plans of its own.

While "Beautiful Disaster" (Jamie McGuire) is probably my new favorite book of all time, I think I've blabbed enough about it (for the day.. ;) ) so I'll blab about THIS today! The Karma Club is just a quirky, yet honest book about karma (obviously) and Maddy learning SHE was not hired to be its advocate. Definitely my most treasured!

Fates unfurl in the gripping conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Hush, Hush saga.Nora is more certain than ever that she is in love with Patch. Fallen angel or no, he is the one for her. Her heritage and destiny may mean they are fated to be enemies, but there is no turning her back on him. Now Nora and Patch must gather their strength to face one last, perilous trial. Old enemies return, new enemies are made, and a friend's ultimate betrayal threatens the peace Patch and Nora so desperately want. The battle lines are drawn—but which sides are they on?
