Excerpt:

A sickening thump made Peter jerk around. His face crinkled with

fury. The car threw the sparse girl’s body upwards into the air, and sped

off down the street. She bounced several times on the pavement. Peter ran

and knelt beside her. Blood dribbled from her lip. And he felt like gar-

bage, being the cause of her injury.

She smiled at him. “Petah. I…knew you would come.” Her dazed

eyes never left his face. “Take me home, Petah.”

He shook his head and searched around. Surprised the street was now

deserted. Tendrils of guilt filled his chest. Another one…my damn fault.

My fault.

Extended Excerpt: 

Pastor Finn pushed a black bag into his hand. “Take this. It’s got money, some fake IDs, keys to the motorcycle and a gun.” He sighed. “Also, directions to a safe place. Don’t stop till you get there. You can only stay the night on holy ground if you don’t want them to find you. But I can’t promise that even with that…you’ll be safe now.”

“Who are you talking about? What. The. Hell is wrong with you? With everyone. Even Hanna was talking crazed!” Peter ripped a hand through his tight curls, refusing to take the bag.

“Truth is son, I don’t know who’s after you. All I know is that the Decretum Venia has been protecting you and others since your birth. They’ve been hiding you, only the higher levels of the order know why. You were given to me by my elder when your mother contacted them at your father’s death. The Decretum Venia was trying to get you to me when one of your protectors was attacked. They met up with a contact at a church near where your mother was. Then you were transported here once it was safe.” Pastor Finn jabbed the bag at Peter once more.

LM. Preston was born and raised in Washington, DC. An avid reader, she loved to create poetry and short-stories as a young girl. With a thirst for knowledge she attended college at Bowie State University, and worked in the IT field as a Techie and Educator for over sixteen years. She started writing science fiction under the encouragement of her husband who was a Sci-Fi buff and her four kids.
