The Casual Vacancy
By J. K. Rowling
Publication Date: September 27, 2012
When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.
Seemingly an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?
Blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising, The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults. (from author's website)
Now, as a HUGE Harry Potter fan, I have to say I'm really excited about this book. I know it won't be the same, but I really do enjoy her style of writing and I'm hopeful that The Casual Vacancy will be just as brilliant as the Potter series was.
That's my pick; what's yours?
Gotta say I'm not all that excited with the description. :( But, the book could be excellent. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, it doesn't sound super interesting, honestly, I'm gonna read it mostly because I'm hoping it will be worthwhile. I feel almost like after reading the 7 books in the Potter series & pretty much memorizing a lot of them from rereading them so many times, that she has to have another really great novel in her, you know. Thanks for the comment!
