'The Boss's Fake Fiancee' by Inara Scott: Review

Is she his worst nightmare…
No relationships, that’s billionaire Garth Solen’s rule—especially not with a woman like his new employee Melissa Bencher, who thinks with her heart and not her head. But all bets are off when Melissa tries to make her jerk ex-boyfriend jealous by suggesting that she’s dating her gorgeous boss. How could she have imagined all the trouble one impulsive act could cause?
…or a dream come true?
To protect his ailing grandmother, Garth is forced to play the part of Melissa’s adoring fiancĂ©. Now they’re trying on rings and posing for the paparazzi. The game is clear: for one month, they play the part of an engaged couple, and then they part ways. No emotions. No entanglements. But when it comes to matters of the heart, Melissa’s never been good at following the rules…

The Boss's Fake Fiancee is Inara Scott's newest romance novel for ADULTS, yes it's in caps, because it's not for you actual young adults in the audience. We have rescinded our earlier decision to stick to YA only because I adore a good steamy romance and Inara Scott always delivers. So when she approached me about whether I'm still reviewing adult titles as well as YA, I had a little chat with Lana and we decided we will no longer be specializing in any genre. Ahem, ok, so explanation over.

The Boss's Fake Fiancee is a sequel to Rules of Negotiation, only it focuses on Brit's sister, Melissa and her boss (Tori's client) Garth. Scott has once again crafted a sweet yet steamy story with vibrant and interesting characters for us to fall in love with.  I can honestly say I have never read a book by Inara Scott that I didn't absolutely love from start to finish, regardless of which genre she was writing in. She is easily one of my very favorite authors and that is VERY hard for me to say.

The story follows both Melissa and Garth, slipping back and forth between them giving us a glimpse into what makes them each tick.  They are both fantastic characters; complex and enchanting, but I have to admit that Garth is my favorite. I cannot help but love him.  He is my favorite of all Inara Scott's male leads.  He's very private and he is widely known as 'the human computer'.  People don't see his dry humor and fierce loyalty, though. Or the struggles he's had to overcome to get where he is in life. I adore him.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good love story. Inara Scott has written what I consider to be the perfect romance and I look forward to reading more from her.
My Rating:
Inara Scott grew up in the winter wonderland of Buffalo, NY. Consequently, she spent much of her childhood complaining about being cold. To spare the world her whining, she fled the cold climate and eventually wound up in the Pacific NW. She loves it there — they get occasional snow, tons of rain in the winter, and lots of sun in the summer. The forests are huge, and the old Douglas Fir trees and thick ferns make you think you’ve wandered into a fairy tale. She would be surprised if there weren’t fairies and elves living there. Seriously.

She loves to hike, canoe, and play outside. She is addicted to yoga. She has a deep affinity for water (she used to believe she could learn to breathe underwater, if she stayed down there long enough).

She's a geek through and through. She fears deep, intellectual books and loves romance and fantasies. She listens to cheesy, happy music. When she was in high school, her friends considered having a clothing intervention for her because she insisted on making her own clothes and shopping at thrift stores. Somehow, she survived.

The Marked by Inara Scott: Review

In her second semester at a boarding school for teenagers with special powers, Dancia Lewis faces danger from both inside and outside of Delcroix Academy.

All of her life, Dancia Lewis has wanted to use her powers for good. And now that she’s learned the truth about Delcroix Academy—and herself—she may just get the chance. But being part of Delcroix’s top secret Program isn’t anything like Dancia expected. She has to ask herself: what happens to the Talented kids who refuse to pledge their loyalty to the Program? And why did her friend Jack run away rather than join? Dancia’s adorable boyfriend Cam insists they need the help of every Talented student to defend Delcroix from dangerous enemies outside their gates. But Dancia has to wonder: what if Delcroix’s most frightening enemies come from within?

The Marked is the second book in The Talents series by the wonderfully talented Inara Scott. I love all of her work, for young adults or otherwise, so it's not surprising that I adored this book. I read it in 3 hours without moving from the couch once; I couldn't put it down. From the very first line, I was hooked.

We see the action through the eyes of our main character, Dancia and she tells the story with humor and insight. I love her character; she's fantastically real. She may not know the whole story about everything going on around her, but she is on a mission to find out the truth. If Dancia is unsure about the organization she has sworn her allegiance to, she knows she can count on her friends, even as it seems they're drifting further away from her.

I have to be honest and say I was never crazy about Cam. Jack seemed to be a better fit for Dancia, in my opinion. I have to say that's all changed now. I'm still not overly happy with the way Cam handles things sometimes but he is trying to be the person Dancia needs him to be now and I'm totally ok with that!

I flew through this book, the plot is fast paced and interesting and the book is loaded with action, romance and some fun new characters (and even some not so fun ones) for us to get to know. I can't wait to see where Dancia's path goes from here!

A Handmaid's Seduction Book #1: Radiant Desire by Inara Scott

BUY NOW AT AMAZON.COM
The object of every man’s fantasy just lost her wings…

Kaia Verde is one of the four Faerie Handmaids of Zafira, Queen of the Fey. To redress an ancient wrong done to Zafira by a human king, the Handmaids make sport of mortal men, seducing and humiliating them. When Kaia sets out to seduce Garrett Jameson, but ends up being the one surrendering to pleasure, Zafira is furious. Kaia’s punishment is simple: make Garrett fall in love with her by the summer solstice, then break his heart, or face eternity without her wings—or her soul. To make the task harder, Zafira tells Kaia she cannot use her faerie magic or charm to lure Garrett into her bed.

…and now she’s losing her heart…

Kaia thinks her task will be relatively easy—as a faerie, she understands lust, and can love be much different? But once she is living among the humans, Kaia discovers the race she once disparaged is far more complex and beautiful than she imagined. She learns before she can break Garrett’s heart, she must find a way to heal it. And eventually, discovers that losing her wings may be a far easier price to pay than losing her heart. (Goodreads)

Radiant Desire is set in modern day Miami and Faeria, the home of the Fey and their queen, Zafira. The story takes place over the span of a month or so as Kaia tries to complete the task set her by Zafira.
I think everyone knows by now how much I love Inara Scott. She is just too wonderful for words. She writes the most fantastic characters into existence. It never fails to amaze and completely entrance me.

This book is no different. From the Queen's Handmaids to the plain old humans in the story, every character is vibrant, alive in your mind from the wonderful descriptions in the book. Your imagination takes over and as you read the story, you can see it unfolding.  Each character has layers and they are all so well-written.

This is so much more than just a love story; it's about what it truly means to be human and put your faith in someone else enough to love them, and let them love you in return; (not just romantically, either).  I loved the twist and the overall story, I really couldn't put it down.

I have to say, Inara Scott has done it again. She adds a depth to her love stories that I adore. Her books in the romance genre are more than just some sex scenes with some dialogue thrown in. They are stores about two people who are truly falling in love and learning the history of that other person.  I can't wait to read her next book!

Rules of Negotiation by Inara Scott: Review

He let her make the rules…

NYC’s most eligible bachelor, Brit Bencher, is also known as The Slayer for his reputation in the boardroom…and the bedroom. And he’ll do anything to take care of his family, even seduce high-powered corporate attorney Tori Anderson in the hopes of getting her to reveal confidential information about one of her clients. But for the first time in his life, he finds he’s falling for a woman.

…and then he started to break them.

After juggling the demands of her career and the stress of caring for her ailing mother, Tori Anderson doesn’t have time for relationships—but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to feel like a woman. When Brit offers a no-strings attached fling, it sounds like exactly what she needs. But what will she do when Brit decides he won’t take “one night stand” for an answer? When Tori uncovers his lies, will he lose his chance with her forever?

First of all, I have to say I've always been a fan of romance novels if they're well written. I consider well written to mean they have a plot and characters who are more than skin deep and maybe some dialogue to go along with the all the naughty scenes. I am so happy to report that Inara Scott's Rules of Negotiation fits all these criteria. The story is sweet and funny while still being sexy, the characters are well developed and likable and the plot moves steadily, pulling you along for the ride.

This book draws you in from the very beginning and you are rooting for the characters and their happy ever after before long. I laughed, cried and sighed as the story went on. My husband laughed at me but I don't care, I'm used to it. :)  The story is told from the third person perspective and it's really fun to see both sides as the couple struggles with their unexpected feelings for one another.

Inara Scott is such a talented voice in the romance genre. Her ability to tell a compelling story really translates into any genre she tries her hand at. I cannot wait to read her next endeavor.

Author Appreciation Day 7: The Irresistible Inara Scott

Today I MUST show my appreciation for the wonderfully talented Inara Scott! There are so many reasons to love Inara, I'm going to have a hard time choosing just one or two to talk about!
Inara Scott
I happened upon Inara's book, The Candidates (back when that's what it was called, now it's known as The Talents!) at my local library! I read the inside cover and said "ooooh" and added it to the pretty large stack already in my arms. I'm so very glad I did. The book just caught my attention and held on, the story, the characters; everything about it was superb! Now I love YA as much as the next girl/woman but I was super excited to learn that Inara also writes lovely steamy romance novels for ADULTS! Yes, that's right! Hunky guys and sassy ladies and all that jazz. I know I love it :) .  Aside from her boundless talent for writing,  Inara is one of the sweetest people you will ever talk to!  And I really mean that from the bottom of my heart. I was lucky enough to win a contest she held and won an arc of her new book, Rules of Negotiation (review to be posted tonight!) and when I asked her for an interview for the blog (posted this morning), she agreed right away. She has been so very supportive of us here & I really want to say thank you!  I just love her to pieces! (And the interview was pretty great :) )

FYI!: Keep your eyes peeled for The Marked (book 2 in The Talents series) coming in April!

Interview: Inara Scott

The wonderfully talented Inara Scott was sweet enough to answer a few questions for us & seeing as how she is our spotlight for today's Author Appreciation post, I thought I'd share it with you guys!

1-What is your favorite part of being a writer?

Inara: You know that happy, squishy, excited feeling you get when you read a great book? Or the way you can't stop grinning when your favorite couple gets their happily ever after? Or the little tingle you get in your stomach when the hero does something painfully sexy? I feel that way when I'm writing--at least, when the writing is going well. LOL! Sometimes writing can be really difficult, but I always feel privileged to get to live in my imagination and create magical worlds. I wouldn't do it if it didn't give me a lot of joy.

2-How much of yourself do you see reflected in your characters?

Inara: I think there's pieces of me in every character I write. I'm sort of like a method actor, only a method writer--I live through the emotions my characters experience, and then try to capture them on the page. So, of course, everything I write is reflected through my world view and life experiences. BUT, that said, my characters are all very different from me, too. For example, I had a really happy childhood with two great parents. All the characters I create with tortured pasts really are different from me; I just try to use the dark places in my head to get a glimpse of what their lives might have been like.

3-What are you reading right now?

Inara: A fantastic contemporary romance by Kristan Higgins (Until There Was You).

4-As a child, who was your favorite author?

Inara: Definitely Anne McCaffrey. She wrote the greatest fantasy/sci-fi series of all times (if you ask me!) -- the Dragonriders of Pern. The first book in that series, Dragonflight, remains my absolute favorite book.

5-If you could spend one day with any literary character who would it be and why?
Inara: I should say something literate and intelligent, but instead I'll be honest and say Anthony Mallory from Johanna Lindsey's book Tender Rebel. I just want to experience that level of sexiness. Then I can die happy. ;-)
