*Hi there guys, first of all Lana and I wanted to say a HUGE thank you for taking the time to chat with us. Can you start off by telling our readers a little about yourselves?
“Oh, yeah, sure. Hi, everyone! My name is P.J. Stone and—“
“Well technically your name is Paige Joplin Stone.” Bryn chuckles and his eyes glitter with amusement.
“Seriously, Bryn? You just had to tell everyone that?” P.J. grinds her teeth together and then pastes on a fake smile. “And everyone this is Bryn Aries O’Bannon. Say hello to everyone, Bryn Aries O’Bannon.”
“Peej, come on.” Bryn frowns at P.J. who grins back at him.
“What? What’s fair is fair.” P.J. laughs.
Khol sighs and crosses his arms. “I think we should get on with this interview, don’t you, my little Seer?”
Bryn scowls at Khol and pulls P.J. closer to him. “She’s not your anything.”
P.J. bites her lower lip and glances nervously between Khol and Bryn. “Yeah, I think we should get on with this interview. So how about the next question?”
*Oookay then, what do each of you consider your greatest accomplishment to date?
“Not killing Khol.” Bryn grumbles under his breath.
“I could say the same about you.” Khol snaps.
“Guys, seriously. Can’t you two keep it under wraps for like five minutes? We all agreed to do this interview for Girls *Heart * Books, so lets do it already.”
“Fine.” Bryn mumbles.
Khol nods his head but continues to glare at Bryn.
“Alright then. Sorry Mel and Lana. These two can be a bit much together in the same room. I really should have thought about that before I talked them both into this.” P.J. sighs. “I can say my greatest accomplishment to date is not being driven crazy by the two of them.” P.J. sighs again but then snuggles into Bryn’s side.
*To PJ & Bryn: What is the first word that pops into your heads when you think about Khol?
“Hot.” P.J.’s face flushes then she looks up at Bryn.
Khol grins.
“I mean, you know, temperature wise, not hot as in hot—just hot.” P.J. looks to Mel for help. “Ummm…you know what I’m saying, right?”
Bryn interrupts. “I’ve got a word for Khol—insane. I mean he has to be to think he has any chance with Peej.”
“He doesn’t think any such thing, Bryn. In fact he didn’t say anything, I did. And it just came out wrong. So please let it go so we can move on with this interview. I’m starting to get annoyed.”
Bryn clamps his mouth shut, but glowers.
“Sorry again.” P.J. says.
*PJ-What five words would you use to describe yourself?
“Hmmm…five words to describe myself. This is a tough one. How about I describe Bryn? Lets see, Bryn is handsome, smart, funny, sexy…did I mention sexy?” P.J. giggles as Bryn dips his head to kiss her neck. “Bryn, stop I wasn’t done.” Bryn whispers something in P.J.’s ear and she blushes. “Yeah, okay we need to finish this up soon because Bryn and I need to—talk.”
Khol snorts but doesn’t say anything.

Khol stares blankly for a moment. “I do not wish to divulge such personal information to strangers.”
“Khol, please, you promised you do this interview.” P.J. says with exasperation.
“I came to this interview for you, my little Seer. And I have stayed because of you as well. But I do not wish to answer the question.”
P.J. throws her hands up in the air. “Fine, one last question please. Clearly this just isn’t working with them.”
*Can you guys tell us what comes next for you?
“I will answer that question.” Khol says as his lips tip up slightly at the corners. “You’re just going to have to read the next book to find out.”
“For once, I agree with Khol.” Bryn chimes in.
“Well that’s at least something.” P.J. smiles. “Thanks for having us here today. I’m sorry that these two were so difficult. But I wouldn’t take it personally. They’re always like this.”
Khol disappears.
Bryn scoops P.J. up in his arms and carries her from the room. P.J. protests but doesn’t look like she means it at all.

Mel & Lana's Top 10 Indie Authors of 2012 & Giveaway
While contemplating our favorite books of 2012, Lana and I realized there were quite a few Indie books that topped our charts. Then we realized that a lot of those were series written by some pretty amazing Indie authors. We then decided we had to spread the love around and devote a post to the lovely authors who've made us love supporting Indies. These aren't in any kind of order. Enjoy!
D.T. Dyllin is the author of the P.J. Stone Gates Trilogy & The Death Trilogy. I was lucky enough to read an arc of Enemy Through the Gates (before Dyllin signed with Dragonfairy Press and changed the name to Hidden Gates). P.J.'s story had me hooked from the very beginning. And I really loved that it was New Adult, so it was a bit steamier than the YA I'd been reading a lot of before that. I cannot wait for the second book in the series. ~Mel
Kaye Thornbrugh is the author of paranormal YA novel, Flicker. I got the chance to read this AH-MAH-ZING faerie book a few months ago and it is still one of my absolute favorites (and I am very, very picky person when it comes to the fae). I loved Lee from the start and still wish to kidnap and keep Filo (though I do ship him with Alice...Alice, Lana, they both have L's...). The second book in the Flicker series cannot come fast enough! ~Lana

Frankie Rose is the author of the phenomenal Hope Series and the upcoming Raksha. I read Sovereign Hope in July and I have been completely besotted with the series ever since. When I finished it, I was sure I'd have to wait at least another year for the next installment. I was very happy when Eternal Hope released in October of the same year. J Meyers is the author of Intangible, Intuition and Indomitable. After being raged at for MONTHS by Mel (she knows she did xP) I finally picked Intangible up. It was my first Indie Novel and is the main reason I adore indie authors now. Ada Adams is the author of the Angel Creek Series. One of the many reasons I adore Ada is that she took a genre (vampires) that I felt was quickly becoming overdone and gave it a complete overhaul and the result was ReVamped. The title is so very fitting. Ada Adams made vampires fun for me to read about again and honestly, I didn't think it could be done. So again, I thank you, Ada for writing books that I am now hopelessly addicted to.~Mel
Stacey Rourke is the author of the amazing Gryphon series- The Conduit, Embrace, and Sacrifice. Let me tell you, I adore these books. Celeste (has an awesome name) is a kickass character with a smartass sense of humor that I just love, and the rest of her characters are all deep and wonderful and it... It is just an amazing series. Michelle Warren is the author of the captivating Seraphina Parrish Trilogy. She is also the very first Indie author I ever encountered. I can't thank her enough for opening the door to some amazing new stories & friends. Her books are enchanting and they draw you in from the very beginning and they don't let go. Cora Carmack is the author of NYT Best Seller, LOSING IT. I had heard many good things about the book when I first picked it up, and I have to say it is one of my favorites this year (see our Best Of post and you shall see I am not lying). Kristen Day is the author of the Daughters of the Sea Trilogy. This series is amazingly addictive and action packed and really different from anything else out right now. We really can't get enough of her or the fantastically hunky male lead, Finn. We like Stasia, too..honest! Kristen has also spoiled us by releasing both books 1 & 2 (Forsaken & Awaken) in 2012. Lana and I have been yearning for the final book in the series, Chosen. I have a feeling I'll be devouring it in a day as soon as I can get my hands on it. ~Mel

Guest Post & Giveaway with D.T. Dyllin, Author of 'Enemy Through The Gates'
Happy Monday guys! The lovely & super talented, Ms. D.T. Dyllin is here to share a little something with you guys!
Have you ever thought about how cool it would be to have a special ‘gift’ or power? In my book ‘Enemy Through The Gates’ there are four types of gifted humans…
Seers: They possess the ability to see any danger or threat to our world along with any matters pertaining to the gates. (Gates are a series of portals or “doors” throughout our dimension linking it to other dimensions.)
Gatekeepers: They have the ability to manipulate various energy fields, including the energy around the gates. They can open and close the gates, which comes in handy with shutting out unwanted visitors to our world.
Speakers: They have the ability to understand and speak all languages of any origin.
Guardians: They have super strength, super speed like Superman (minus the vulnerability to Kryptonite) but can be injured like any mortal human.
The abilities of a Seer are inherently attached to the XX chromosome. Therefore, only females possess the potential to be a Seer. On the opposite end of the genetic spectrum, Guardian abilities are attached to the Y chromosome thereby limiting Guardian powers to males. Bearing that in mind, I think I would prefer to be a Guardian. Why? Because they are the bad asses of the bunch! They have superior speed, strength, etc. Think Superman minus the flying ability and vulnerability to Kryptonite. How much fun would that be? However, there is the training. Once they begin developing their powers after puberty, Guardians steadily gain strength, stamina and physical bulk. I think Stan Lee put it best in his Spiderman comics with the quote…”With great power comes great responsibility.” So, Guardians must constantly discipline themselves and hone their skills through training.
A Seer doesn’t need to train. She basically sits around waiting to see an event. But, when she does, it can be pretty physically taxing. I compare Seers with the type of brain-iacs that have an answer to everything but can’t keep up in gym class. One could argue that brains are better than brawn, to which, I concur. Yet, Guardians are not ‘all brawn and no brains’. Typically, they’re like most people in that some are smarter than others. So, intelligence really doesn’t factor into my choice. I just think it would be cool to lay some major smack down on an alien interloper showing up to threaten our world.
Okay, so now that you know a little bit more about the gifted humans in ‘Enemy Through The Gates’…who do you think you would prefer to be? I’ve already told you my answer, so I want to hear yours!

Author Spotlight: D.T. Dyllin
D.T. Dyllin, the author of the fantastic Enemy Through The Gates was kind enough to talk to me about being a writer, what's next for her heroine & a few other odds & ends.

Hmmm…what to say without giving too much away? In ‘Enemy Through The Gates’ P.J. is very young, and I’m not just referring to her age, but emotionally. There is a version of herself that she strives to be but hasn’t quite realized. But…how’s the clique’ go? Oh yes…the plot thickens in book two. She will have a lot of character growth, some from her own choosing, and some forged in the fires of battle, so to speak. I like to write flawed characters, in other words, realistic ones. I had one reviewer of ‘Enemy Through The Gates’ state that some of P.J.’s tantrums towards her parents set her teeth on edge. Honestly, that was what I was going for, and that statement had me patting myself on the back for a job well done. I want people to like P.J. but not always like her actions. Whether you love her or hate her, as long as you feel something for her, then you’re emotionally invested. Essentially, all of my stories are character studies. I’m an emotionally driven person and all of my stories follow suit. So what’s next for P.J.? A lot of twists and turns and surprises that I can guarantee no one saw coming. I was just getting started with the first book!
When did you realize you wanted to be an author?
I’ve always been a writer of some sort, whether it was short stories, poetry, songs, or now novels. I made the jump to novels when songwriting no longer seemed to satisfy me creatively. When writing a song, it’s like creating a snap shot version of a character’s emotions at a particular point in their lives. In my head there was a before and an after, but I couldn’t share all that went into the creation of a character within the context of the song. Eventually, the characters I created had too much to say, and not enough time to say it in a 3-4 minute platform. I was left feeling like my creations were unfinished and incomplete. That’s when it became clear to me that my characters needed to have their stories truly told, and that it was time to move on to a different medium.
Where did you get the idea for 'Enemy Through The Gates'?
All of my ideas come to me from my dreams. Sometimes it’s just a particular character, or sometimes it’s the backdrop for the story. But once I have the first little spark of creation, everything else always seems to fall into place. In the case of ‘Enemy Through The Gates, I dreamt that I was P.J. in what is now the opening scene of my book. It was if I was in her head, and could hear her thoughts, yet I was still me. The next day P.J.’s presence haunted me, and by that evening I had already written the first couple chapters of ‘Enemy Through The Gates’.
Are any of your characters inspired by people from your life?
My characters are definitely influenced by people I know in the way of certain phrases and small interesting quirks, but as a whole…no. I’m afraid if I did that and I was mad at someone I might kill them off or torture them or something. My mom was upset with what happened to P.J.’s mom in ‘Enemy Through The Gates’ and begged me to change it. Her mom is nothing like my mom, and that caused me more drama than I wanted. So mom…if you happen to read this…NO, I’M NOT CHANGING THE STORY FOR YOU.
What are you reading right now?
I’m currently re-reading The Night Huntress series. I love me some Cat and Bones! I’ve got so much other stuff going on now that I don’t want to pick something new up to sidetrack myself. So I’ve been revisiting a lot of books that I’ve already read lately.
What do you consider 'perfect' writing conditions?
For me it’s the basics… A full belly, and a comfortable place to sit. Sometimes I listen to music, and sometimes I need complete silence. It all really depends on my mood. But if I’m hungry and uncomfortable…forget about it!
Do you ever get stuck when writing? What do you do to help yourself get unblocked?
I don’t get stuck in the way of writers block. (Knock on wood.) I get frozen in place in my story because I can’t decide what’s going to happen next. I’ve usually laid out way too many options for myself. That’s actually why in all the books I’ve written so far I’ve had a moment when I’ve deleted a bunch of pages and rewritten a certain portion of the plot. When I have the big delete moment that always seems to do the trick. I heave a huge sigh of relief and resume my writing.
What advice would you give aspiring authors?
Don’t aspire…just do it. Whether you’re published or not doesn’t change the fact that you’re a writer, so write, write, and write some more. Don’t let anything stop you from creating in the medium that fulfills you creatively.

'Enemy Through the Gates' by D.T. Dyllin: Review
After a traumatic night at a friend’s party, P. J. realizes what she truly wants has been right under her nose all along. Bryn O’Bannon, her best friend and partner in crime since age five, is head over heels in love with her, and she feels the same about him.
But P.J.’s life isn’t that simple. She’s a member of a separate society that exists secretly among the rest of the world; the society raises gifted individuals to protect the world from interdimensional interlopers, and P. J. was taught to put duty before her heart. She is expected to choose a suitable mate in order to perpetuate the Seer line. Unfortunately, Bryn is a Guardian and is forbidden to date—let alone mate with—a Seer such as herself.
As if figuring out her love life isn’t complicated enough, P.J. begins having visions of a threat to her world only she is able to perceive. Now, she must concoct and execute a plan to avert world disaster while at the same time avoiding the dissolution of her love life. (from Goodreads)
Ok let me start out by saying that I was very lucky to get a copy of this book from the author to read and review. When I read the synopsis, I thought, hmm..this sounds different, I can't wait to read it. I was blown away by this book. Honestly. It was so much more than I was expecting! D.T. Dyllin brings us a story with suspense, romance, action, heartbreak and a great group of characters.
The story, told from the point of view of the main character, P.J. is rife with conflict and suspense. Far from being another cookie cutter paranormal story, this book has twists and surprises that will have you gasping out loud in places. Well-written and funny, I couldn't stop reading this book. I devoured it in a day. I literally carried it from room to room with me. I just had to know what would happen next.
Even as P.J. makes choices that you want to kick her for, you're cheering her on and hoping things turn out all right for her in the end. She is a great character, funny and stronger than she realizes. She is also fiercely loyal and even when she has no idea what to do, she tries to do something whether it's to save herself or others. She isn't your damsel in distress type, she wants to be able to kick butt and be a force to be reckoned with. You really can't help but love her.
I love P.J.'s friends, too. Jenna, her sex-obsessed female best friend may seem self-absorbed but she's always right there for P.J. when needed. Then we have Bryn, the other best friend and the love of P.J.'s life. He is sweet and yes, quite hunky. He's also smart and funny & unapologetically overprotective of P.J. I adore him.
Honestly the only thing I didn't like about this book was that it ended. I can't wait to find out what lies ahead for P.J. and her friends. If you are looking for a good paranormal read with a lot of romance and some steamy scenes to keep you interested, this book is definitely for you!
